dinner faces

What I loved most about today was getting to see how each of my friends and I fit together from the tricksters (who plotted to spend the day with me under the strangest of circumstances) who seem to always be by my side when I need them, to those who listen to the details of my heart, the ones I count one, the ones who always surprise me, those that dig deep to help me see in myself what they see in me, and those who no matter how far away they are let me know I am sheltered and loved.
 To my friends and family,
I love you all.  Thank you for the best and biggest birthday so far :)

praying for a train

Last night I did some backtracking through my life.
Lugged my tired 9 yr old from the lights of the gym out into a somber evening and a cold car.

A storm is drifting in.  The fight is on; BC's son has told his mother he wants to live with us full time.  The papers are filed with the school district. And the phone calls have started.  I fear war has been declared between 2 households that walk on a fragile, often false peace.  My baby is unsure about what is about to happen to her family, the good and the bad.  Her little face pressed tight to the glass, her fingers tracing flashes of brightness in the dark.

On the freeway I drove the drive of a thousand moments over road so familiar I dream it in perfect detail.  Exiting early, driving 700 East turning left down our old street.  Past the Hollywood house BC build.

The house where all 4 kids lived as a family.

"I don't remember living there." She said.
Past my old house, "That's okay I don't remember living there." I answered lying to us both. Right.  Left.  Right.  Past the Park Street house BC build.

"Do you want ice cream?"  I asked.  The answer was obvious.
With a slightly leaning chocolate vanilla cone in her hand she traces the rising and falling street lights with her eyes down 1700 South.  The red flashing of the crossing coming into view.
"What do you think of that train?"  I ask her.
She kisses the soft creamy coldness.
"I think it is a good place for a train."
And I agreed, turning off the engine.
And we sat in the darkness watching the cars rumble by savoring the moment.
Alone, together.

Our life waiting for us on the other side.

the other side of the rainbow

Yesterday Beach got better.
This morning well but still considered contaminated by her mother Beach was sentenced to one more day of social isolation. The kid though was bouncing off the walls so her mother invited her to join the weekly Sunday morning 'Yoga Class'.

Holy Geekness!!!

No matter what I said to her about getting her feet parallel she could not get them to do anything other than be on the Beam: Beam Toes in Chair Pose.

And then her mother made a break for it!

sick and sinking

maybe i'm not a very good mom.... sometimes i can't tell the difference between them.  alexis and beach are often the same child to me. 3 year old beach is 3 year old alex; 3 year old alex is beach. i stared at the little clip alex posted of her sister spinning (about age 4) and couldn't wrap my head around which child that was there on the screen.  i have looked at beach's feet searching for the scares on her brother's.  i miss name them in photos.  i point to beach when i am talking about alex.
today it would be nice to know the difference between them.  alex was a premature infant 2.7 lbs hospitalized for pneumonia out of the blue at age 4, weak lungs, always under weight, always too small, always a worry, even now.  conner a full term walking talking medical disaster hospitalized with pneumonia out of the blue at age 6.  beach a full term baby healthiest kid i have ever seen minus the eye thing and the not so often seen or remembered high blood pressure...
as i watch her sleep, day 2, too sick to eat & drink, watching her breathing heavily from her collarbones i whisper to myself she is not alex, she is not conner, but my fear doesn't believe me.
